  2. I enjoyed watching this video. While I have read about bear boxes, I’ve never actually seen one “in use”, so that was interesting. Also, I never even thought about hanging a bag that wasn’t tied off to a tree. I’ll have to make one of these!

  3. Glad you liked it. I really like the PCT method…I have been using it for 3 years now and I have never had an “incident”.

Building one of these is easy but if you are starting from scratch I would highly suggest buying the kit in the video. The main reason is because of the rope; this stuff is super strong, very light, and slides over branches really well. The rock sack is also nice too. It is a bit pricey but it is well worth it, in my opinion.

  4. The reason the rope glides so easily over tree branches is due to it’s flat weave. You can get it alone, or as part of the kit as Chad mentioned, at BPL.

  5. The PCT method is very similar to how we hang our food in places like Algonquin Park here in Ontario, Canada.

Chad is right in that you need a really strong rope. We’ve had fellow hikers use the cheap yellow nylon rope only to have it break up in the tree. The price of the good rope is worth it as it will give you years of service.
