  4. My wife and I finally tried out the pizzas. They were delicious, better than we expected! After an afternoon of hiking, they really hit the spot!

It was mid-80’s F, so we took individually-wrapped string cheese and used the strings instead of shredded. Worked just find. The wrapping helps keep the cheese fresh, and just to be sure, we kept it refrigerated until just before we left the house, then I stuck it inside my camelbak cover, right next to the cold water. It was still chilled that evening for supper!
Also, while we do have the jetboil, we haven’t picked up a pan yet. However, it worked just fine in our JB pot. We do recommend a spatula, as we partially melted a spork on the bottom of the pot.

  5. Interesting recipe but you guys really need to take a course on Leave No Trace hiking! “a little mess on the ground never hurt anything?” “Bring along a sponge and rinse the pan out in a stream?” COME ON!

We have taken a course and we do practice Leave No Trace. When I said a little mess I meant the cheese, a bit of that on the ground is not going to bother anything.

When I wash my pan I sit next to a stream and use a plain sponge with no chemicals on it. For soap I use a couple drops of Dr. Bronner’s organic soap. It does not leave a trace except for maybe a bit of food residue, on the bank, not in the water. If the food is stubborn I boil a bit of water in the jetboil cup and use that.

We do everything we can to ensure that there was no sign we were in the woods when we are there. Thanks for stopping by the site.
